Holden Outerwear 2010

Holden has been the leader in fashion fowrward and ecco friendly outerwear since their arrival on the scene. This season is no different. They have some new technologies to keep you warm and dry, looking fly and mother nature approved.

The Isobel Jacket is offered in many different materials and fabrics but one of my favs is the Red Hemp. It looks like a tweed but is comprised of 55% Hemp and 45% Recycled PET Polyester.

FYI: Polyester is a synthetic fiber mainly made of plastic. PET stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate, which is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in synthetic fibers; beverage, food and other liquid containers; thermoforming applications; and engineering resins often in combination with glass fiber. Therefore, making a Recycled PET Polyester fiber is awesome for the environment. Plastic bottles sit in landfills for hundreds of years before decay sets in. Anywhere between 15-35% of plastic bottles make their way into recycling facilities and with companies like Holden creating recycled products, hopefully that number will rise.

Holden's Hemp / PET Poly Fabric has a soft hand feel and  linen look. Hemp by nature is extremely durable and the use of recyecled PET Polyester from plastic bottles adds stability to the fabric without creating much pollution. The garment is laminated with a solvent-free laminate to reduce stress on the environmant and to the workers during production.

This product also features a flurocarbon-free DWR. Drastically cutting down on harmful emissions. It is rated for 10,000mm waterproffness and 10,000g/M2 Breathability. These ratings are good and are my personal minimum when looking for outerwear.
