Get your lazy bones out of bed already!

If you are like me, dragging your ass out of bed to hit the gym can be a little excruciating after a hard day of playing in the snow, battling waves, or tearing it up on a killer half-pipe. But if you want to keep your form in tip-top shape and avoid getting trashed by your buddies for being a total sloth, I suggest opening your eyes and pushing yourself to the treadmill or some other suitable form of cardio torture.

Whether the energy increase is psychosomatic, or whether it is the fact that ephedrine is now illegal, I am a personal believer in the merits of workout bars and fruity concoctions before, during, and after working out.

After overdosing my taste buds on U-turn and Detour bars, which are a little like Snickers on crack, I decided that I really wasn’t doing my body any good and shopped around for a better product and that’s when I first discovered LUNA products. The LUNA bars were the first bars that had a decent taste to them and I didn’t feel like I had to run an extra mile to work it off.

Now, as I am lugging my butt to the only place where I intentionally attempt to derive some type of physical pain in exchange for a lithe figure, I am thrilled to bring along my trusty LUNA products.

Since late '07, they have developed women-centric workout products under the LUNA Sport product line that have blown my mind. They are dedicated to the nutritional needs of women, which is a giant plus. I thought I would share my findings with you. For a period of five days, as I slaved over cardio hell, I tried their new offerings. Here is what I found.

The LUNA Sport Moons energy chews in Pomegranate, Watermelon, and Blueberry are bona fide energy boosters. I really liked the flavour of the Pomegranate chews and the Blueberry chews, with Pomegranate taking the taste-test lead. The watermelon chews however, tasted like crushed-up daily vitamins mixed in water. I had to choke them down. Not a good combination so stay away from them. I am surprised to say that during mile three of my run, I felt energized and on top of my game. And at only 100 calories a packet, they are a great source of energy.

The LUNA Sport Electrolyte Splash in Lime Ade and pink grapefruit certainly quenched my thirst and rejuvenated my body. During my six-mile bike-ride, the Lime Ade splash restored my electrolytes and gave me a sense of thirst satisfaction. Now, I am not a huge fan of pink grapefruit to begin with but in all fairness to the product, I tried it and am happy to report that it has a nicely sweet taste. That doesn’t make me a convert but I won’t turn it down if it’s the only option I have in the gym. Overall, great taste, and performs the task of restoring my body to pre-workout-hell levels.

The LUNA Sport Recovery Smoothie narrowly escaped the chalky-terror that accompanies powdered protein mixes. I tried the strawberry banana mix with water and it bordered on chalkiness. With the dark chocolate, I added soymilk and it tasted like a chocolate milkshake. I imagine the strawberry banana would taste much better with soymilk. The added protein and calcium is a great boost to the body after a grueling workout and the low calories makes it easy to swallow.

Overall, LUNA Sport makes good on its promise to deliver women the nutrients they need after a workout and manage to add great flavour and taste to their new products. Now, stop giving excuses, grab a packet of fruit chews, and get your ass out there. You will be happy you did when you are rocking a firm bod this summer and putting the rest of the world to shame.
